a search bar for mobile if you want????-- "some people say it has a mind of it's own" welcome to the n64hideout! it's my own little nook of the internet to discuss & post about whatever nostalgic junk i feel like, as well as just practice web design in-between jobs. i hope you'll hang out for a bit and feel free to join in the discussion via the forum! come say hello! most recent posts: hey nerds, the "spooky stuff" link on the right-side navigation bar is live now. this is where i'll archive creepy videos/stories i find around the internet that aren't too well known or that may be at risk of fading away. who knows how many youtube accounts, forums, and websites hosting rare videos go down every day? hopefully i can give some underground creepy stuff a home for a few years. i'm talking about weird cctv footage, ghosts caught on flip-phone cameras, and the like. i'm sorry to say....that means you will not be able to find the freshest five nights at freddy's fanfics here. if you have some cool background info on a video/article/story i post, please share it on the forum . if you just wanna complain about how obviously "fake and gay" some of the videos are, that commentary goes in the same place. if you really want to discuss five nights at freddy's, discussion goes here or here . -rob 4/23/17 zelda page is live / where does breath of the wild fit on the timeline?!?! [no story spoilers] whats up guys? real quick before i go full retard about breath of the wild, i just wanna mention that the zelda page is live now. all zelda posts will be archived there along with posts that are too specific to be featured on the homepage. with that out of the way, i just got back from the bar where we had a good conversation about games and inevitable zelda came up. we tried explaining to a foreign student how hyrule warriors isn't really a zelda game per-se, and i noticed that i haven't gone into depth at all about breath of the wild yet. please excuse any spelling/grammar mistakes, i still have a little buzz from the bar. i'll tidy that up in the coming days when i check back. concerning timeline placement, it seems that the early consensus was that botw came way down the line after windwaker. the koroks make a prominent appearance, and i believe a few item descriptions make reference to a great sea in the past. something to do with the rock salt cooking ingredient? as we get further and further from the release we got confirmation from aonuma that botw takes place in a timeline past ocarina of time where ganon has been fought multiple times, which excludes windwaker (aka adult timeline) and leaves us with the fallen hero or child timeline as our only choices. botw makes little to no allusion to the fallen hero timeline, so fan consensus is that botw takes place long after twilight princess due to the presence of the sheikah tribe (or some folks that at least think they are sheikah), zelda's reference to link's battle against the twilight realm, and the structure of hyrule castle/layout of castle town. at first i wanted to say these were stupid fan theories since the koroks are here, but i guess the koroks could be present in this timeline as well as representations of the kokiri tribe. the deku tree is alive and well, so it could have spawned koroks here as well. in the face of overwhelming evidence, i'm gonna go ahead and agree that botw takes place 10,100+ years after majora's mask, twilight princess, and four swords adventures. it's just something i've been podering at work and thought warrants a post of it's own before my majora's mask followup is complete. as always, discussion is welcome on the forum . -rob 3/23/17 visitors from my youtube channel hi! if anyone followed the announcement video on my channel and wound up here...you're in the right place. i'll be posting about upcoming videos here in the future, but i'll say for now that voyager of time is first on my list to wrap up as soon as i graduate in may. after that, i'll probably continue some of my majora's mask walkthrough videos & start a new romhack playthrough if anyone cares to see it. i'll be working from home after may, so i can actually finish projects i get started on for once. come say hello and drop suggestions/requests here . -rob 3/20/17 forum! pt. 2 forum is spruced up. messing with settings i broke the forum a grand total of 8 times and had to 100% uninstall and reinstall it. i learned the hard way the value of backups. check it out here . -rob 3/17/17 forum is up! as the title says, the forum is now online. check it out here or via the sidebar. it's still a template forum with tons of sample text everywhere for the time being, but it works. expect dumb custom skins and logos to pop up in the coming weeks. -rob 3/15/17 zelda review 1 - majora's mask (part 1, pretty much just a long-ass preamble) if you couldn't tell by the name of the site, i'm a pretty big fan of the n64 & late-90's gaming in general. i find myself going back to n64/ps1 era games just as often as i pick up new releases. they may be getting up in years but i've never felt that they're "old", probably because i aged alongside my piles of childhood games. as i continue on, so does the zelda series. with the release of breath of the wild i present to you.......a post about majora's mask. over time, i've found that a lot of titles from those days still evoke the feelings they used to. the empty overworld and creepy ambient laugh track in glover still creep me out. goemon hopping into impact for first-person mecha combat in mystical ninja starring goemon gets me hyped-up. zidane referring to steiner as "rusty", or squall doing...anything really...still elicit a smile at least. anyone visiting a website named n64hideout.com doesn't need me to explain why games are great and all the fun memories you can form around them, and i'm sure you have a list of your own such instances. why does majora's mask deserve a special mention then? it was the first game that made me think. at the time, i was 8 years old and it was my last night in the house i grew up in. we would be taking a taxi to the airport the following morning before the sun came up, so i went across the street to spend a few hours with my friend and say goodbye while my parents finished loading some boxes into the moving truck. lo and behold, we get up to his room and he's got a zelda game paused on his tv. one i'd never seen...gold cartridge and holographic label. he ran around west clock town for a few minutes, showing me how it rained during the day and the twins dancing to kamaro's spooky song at night. it was so unlike what i knew zelda to be from my countless hours with ocarina of time (that's another story), and i was blown away. there were so many questions i had to ask him, but since i was moving in the morning i had no time to ask! what do you mean there's a bank??? wait, who's majora?? how did you make link turn into a deku scrub!? i once heard a guy on youtube say about his favorite game that it "came at a time in my life when i was 'ready' to be amazed". i guess that's what it was for me too. i was ready for more than just feeling excited, frustrated, getting a high score, beating a boss, collecting rings, or beating my friends in smash. i wanted to understand a world, its characters, and their motivations for the first time. to be continued... -rob 3/9/17 code for a search bar if you need it-- zelda stuff rpg stuff misc. games spooky stuff forum about downloads check me out on youtube no flash player! it looks like you don't have flash player installed. click here to go to macromedia download page.
